WhaZup my fellow boaters!!!
Sorry for dropping out for so long. I had a few computer problems but that’s no excuse. I just read the Thread started by Ted (Salt n Pepper) from earlier in the year and he’s absolutely right. The two of us have talked about this many times while sipping a brew or two and we just can’t figure out why it’s so hard to get (and keep) a forum going. Part of the reason I dropped out for so long is because I too am guilty of succumbing to the lack of interest from those who choose only look and not respond. For me, I always look forward to reading the responses.

Ted and his wife have been great next door neighbors to me and my crew and there are few boaters I can say that about. We did a little fishin’ in the marina this past weekend and after only 5 minutes, Ted hooked into this beauty of a Largemouth Bass! Our marina friend (Chuck) just happened by and jumped into Ted’s picture right after he pulled it from the water. I took the picture (since I wasn’t catching any fish)! Ted did release it back into the water right after taking this picture.

Anyway, we’ve been having a rather slow summer on the water and I’ve logged only TWO hours so far this season. We’ve been “Rockin’ at the Dock” all summer with only two very short trips out of the marina.

This coming weekend, we’re having out annual dock party so it looks like another weekend at the dock for most of us. That’s okay . . . Unbelievably, I’ve still got some of the gas from the 2007 season in my tanks! If I don’t run that stuff out soon, I’ll have to drop a couple cans of fuel enhancers in there to give it a boost (you think)? l.o.l.

It’s good to be back online and hope to hear from you guys soon. . . .

Great picture guy’s and now that I am in the cruiser family hopefully you guy’s will realize that I am one of the few more serious boater’s and also I love this site and would like to see more people communicating on here as well as maybe in the future we can plan on visting each other…

Hello All. Bill from the left coast here. Glad to see all doing well. Just completed a three week cruise to the Channel Islands. Turned out to be a long journey and ran into some weather a few days both underway and at anchor. Burned a bunch of fuel, but it was fun and we made it back to San Diego in one piece. More details later. Bill

Bill, you never fail to amaze me with your trips!  Your distant ports always seem to be exotic and unfamiliar places to me, leaving me searching the web to see what you’re talking about. I spent a year in the LA/Long Beach area after returning from Vietnam back in the late ‘60’s but only had official Navy experience out there on the water. I still want to visit out your way to check out the recreational side of boating there.

I’m glad “Insanity50” made the transition to the CRUISER WORLD and wants to network with us. I’m all for that even though many of us are owners of “Old School” boats from yester-year!  tongue rolleye But as long as it floats, it’s still a boat as far as I’m concern.

Some of my boating buddies use to brag about their “Big Boats” but now most of them are trying to down-size and get out of that “Big Boat Note” that comes with the territory. I sure wish I still had my first boat now ("Close Enuff-I” which was a 21 ft. Sea Ray) that I kept on a trailer in the driveway during the summer! And now with “Close Enuff IV"(my 1991 33/350 AFT Cabin), I can only dream about those “good ole’ days and not knowing how good I had it! I’m not saying anything a lot of folks haven’t said or privately thought to themselves with today’s economy issues.

But still, I’m not complaining . . . .  I love boating too much.

I’m looking forward to your stories from your recent trip.

Sounds good . . . Ted (Salt) and I will work it from our end as well.  I know “BayBayKid” out on the Chesapeake Bay will be in the mix as well. There’s got to be some other boaters in between that would like to join in (I hope)!

I had to laugh at your comment . . . It occurred to me with that reversed way of looking at that photo (Who’s holding who?), “Chuck” could have been the fish!  Look at it again and read my description. . . .  l.o.l.

Thanks 50. 8.1 litre gas engines occupy the holy place. CODE ZERO is 7 years old and still running well thank goodness. I will try and keep up with you guys on the posts. Howard, the channel islands are real nice. My trip started out leaving san diego with the first stop at mission bay just north. Anchored out for two days then headed north to dana point. stayed there three days then made the crossing to catalina. stayed in avalon on a mooring for five days then went to the west end of the island and stayed three days at two harbors. headed north to the channel islands and droped anchor on the north side of anacapa island at a place called frenchy’s cove. this is where we started having fun. Around 2300 hours we heard strong winds come up very quickly that woke us. At the same time a horn blast sounded. It was a neighbor attempting to warn us we were dragging our anchor. Another boat was also dragging and fortunatly we both gained control. I reset and ended up staying awake all night. This, after cruising 12 hours from catalina. In the morning set out further west to santa cruz island and dropped at a cove that provided good protection. headed in to channel island harbor after 2 days for fuel and got a guest slip. What a relief. After enjoying the boat not rolling and restaurant food for a couple days we started heading south. stopped in marina del ray then made it to dana point next day. We kind of like dana point so we stayed the maximum 3 days before heading home to san diego. Man this was a tiresome trip but it was fun. burned over 600 gallons of fuel and averaged 9 knots. If you get a chance take a look at the channel islands. very pretty and unspoiled. And Ted, I am glad to see you are active at the Silverton site. I told you it would be a wealth of knowledge. Bill

Wow is all I can say!! Bill I have been boating for about 25 years now and I have always longed for an adventure like that it sounded like you had a lot of fun, right now I am still a part of the working world so time is my worst enemy however when I get to here about guy’s like yourself getting to experience times like this it really keeps me hoping and praying for the day when I can retire and enjoy those type of experiences.

I’m with you Big Fifty. Capn Bill is my idol.  Time got me strapped this season too.  All I’ve been doing is sitting on my boat whenever I get a chance.  Not much Cruisin.  Was in a big storm this season but I was at the docks. I’m planning to do something over the labor day weekend though.  For now I’ll have to live through Bill and Salt who seems to get out.

Well I am out every weekend but because of where I boat I don’t get much adventure, although this past weekend I had a few of my friends out (Clyde Drexler former NBA and David Latin Center for the original team from the movie Glory Road)and A few friends and we had a blast.... wink

Like this? Okay… I’m enjoying this recent barage of posts on the site.  I really hope it keeps up.  I’m loving the stories of adventure for the “left Coast” Michigan and Texas with my man Big Fifty. Just saw a story on the front of the IB website about a haunted lighthouse in Michigan.

We have a couple of light houses on the Chesapeake.  I’m going to start posting photos of stuff around here.  We get to cruise a lot of rivers. The West River, the Rappahanock, the patapsco which runs to Baltimore, The pawtuxent and the Potomac are all within a two hour cruise.

I also like Big Fifty’s idea of being able to meet folks in their respective boating areas.  Sounds like building an Inland Boater Nation.  That would be fabulous!! Maybe we can start one online!
